Chromium OS Flow

Hexxeh, builder of many custom Chromium OS builds has rolled-out a new build called Flow that was recently reviewed by a Linux site. The OS was tested in a virtualbox environment though.

Cedar Trail supports Chromium OS

Good news for the Chromium fans! According to a source, the next-generation Atom, codenamed “Cedar Trail” will not only support Windows Operating system, but also Chrome OS by Google. The list does not ends there. It also supports MeeGo Linux OS, an open source OS that took birth when both Intel and Nokia went to bed. The Cedar Trail series will be unveiled in the year 2011

This means that Chromium will run without a hitch on the upcoming Intel Atom-powered netbooks. Future is surely very bright for the Chromium OS.

Confirmed – Google Bringing Flash to Chromium

Well, it is official now. Google has realized that Flash is the most popular web-browser plug-in and flash opens gates to wide range of apps and content on the Internet such as games, videos and enterprise apps. Google has joined hands with Adobe to improve the flash player experience in Google Chrome browser which is also the core of Chromium OS.

Google promises to bring this functionality as quickly as they can.

Google to launch Chrome Business Version in 2011

Google Chrome netbooks will be making their debut by the end of this year. These netbooks will be running Consumer Version of Chromium OS. In the year 2011, there will be another version that will be making its way to the Chrome OS world – Chrome OS Business version. According to the security engineers at Google, this version is stated to have "more management muscle".

Also, the Chromium netbooks will have a hardware-switch beneath the battery that would trigger "developer mode". When running in this mode, some special security functions will be turned-off that would allow the developer to play with the Chromium’s code.

Qualcomm FLO TV running on Chromium

This is for those who thought that Chromium is mere Cloud operating system. Fantastic folks at electricpig spotted a Chromium smartbook that was running Qualcomm’s FLO TV application which uses FLO TV network, not wireless connection. What does that means for the Chrome OS society? This implies that one does not necessary need a wireless connection like Wi-Fi or 3G to fetch data

Hexxeh updates Chrome OS build

The official release of Chrome OS is still months away, but that has not Hexxeh from churning-out new, better builds and his latest release packs quite a punch. The new build has full Nvidia ION acceleration, automatic-update now works and even the battery life has improved. Also, now you can customize the menu where one can add, delete and move your apps around.

Note that this build does not works in VMWare and you must install it on a physical drive.

Samsung Chrome OS netbook in the making

Samsung has confirmed that it is indeed working on a Chromium netbook. Phil Newton, head of Samsung IT Australia said that Samsung Chromium netbook will feature a 10.1-inch display, 2GB RAM, 64GB SSD, 3G and 12-hour of runtime. He further added that it will be similar to the Samsung N210 netbook that also has a 10.1-inch display

This Chromium netbook is rumored to be powered by the new 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor. Expected arrival time is H2 2010.

How To: Add Chrome OS Menu to Google Chrome Browser

Chrome OS menu which is the first tab is not directly accessible on the Chromium OS. Even it you enter its address, which is http://welcome-cros.appspot.com/menu, you won’t be able to access the Menu. However, there is a workaround –

  • Right click on the Google Chrome Browser icon on your desktop.
  • Select “Properties”
  • Look for “Target”
  • In the  ”Target” box, after chrome.exe” put a space, and add the following line of code
  • -user-agent=”Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; CrOS i686 9.10; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.0.253.0 Safari/532.5″ -pinned-tab-count=1
  • Now, Click “Apply” and then “OK”
  • Now go to “Options” menu in Google Chrome settings.
  • Under “Home Page”, select ” Open This Page”
  • Enter http://welcome-cros.appspot.com/menu
  • Hit “close”
  • Restart your Chrome browser
  • That’s it
