Acer has reduced the price of its Chromium netbook, AC700. Earlier, it was being retailed for 350 dollars, but now the company is selling it for just 300 dollars on sites like Amazon. For those who do not know, AC700 is one of the first Chromebooks and it ships with Google Chromium operating system instead of windows 7 starter that is widely used in Atom powered netbooks.

Acer has made it official that its first Chromium netbook will hit the retail shelves for 350 dollars this month (June, 11). Note that this is the Wi-Fi only model and the 3G capable model will be coming sometime later this summer.

We mentioned in 2009 about Acer working on a Chromium netbook (which turned out to be Acer ZGA) last year but then there were several reports of Acer cancelling the project. Now, a mention of a netbook with Chrome OS called ZGB has been spotted in a bug report (filed few hours back). This is what the report says,

Acer will be launching its Chromium netbook later this year. However, since Chromium OS is still a new player in the game, Acer will be bundling it with their Windows 7 Starter netbooks. Also, Acer Chrome OS netbooks will account for just 10% of total netbook sales.
Acer is prepping a dedicated App Store for its Chromium netbooks that will feature Chrome OS extensions and other online apps.
